Despite some major candidates withdrawing on the last day to withdraw applications in the Vidhan Parishad biennial elections, the rebellion within Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi is not completely subdued.
Shiv Sena candidate Mangesh Chivte withdrew from the Pune Teacher constituency. This made it clear that Koustubh Gavade would be the Mahayuti candidate in this constituency. Along with former MLA Dattatray Savant and Sachin Sanp, several candidates are challenging Mahayuti. Since Congress' Jayant Asgavkar is the Maha Vikas Aghadi candidate, there is a three-way contest. In the Pune Teacher constituency, there are 30 and in the Pune Degree constituency, 47 voters' rings.
Despite efforts by big leaders, Anil Sole, a BJP leader, has not withdrawn his candidacy in the Nagpur Degree constituency. Thus, his challenge to BJP's official candidate Sudhakar Kohle remains. Since 16 other candidates have withdrawn from the Nagpur Degree constituency, 38 will contest the election. Meanwhile, four candidates have withdrawn from the Amravati Teacher constituency, leaving 26 contestants.
In the Aurangabad Division Degree constituency, 13 candidates have withdrawn their nominations, leaving 41 contestants.
Voting for the Vidhan Parishad will take place on 23 October, and counting will be on 27 October.
