Putin Wishes Modi Happy Birthday, Praises Strategic Partnership
Russian President Putin wished PM Modi a happy birthday, praising their strategic partnership. The message was shared via the Russian Embassy with the hashtag DruzhbaDosti.

Russian President Vladimir Putin extended birthday wishes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 76th birthday, crediting him with strengthening the 'special and privileged' strategic partnership between New Delhi and Moscow. The Russian Embassy in India shared the message on Instagram using the hashtag 'DruzhbaDosti,' a blend of Russian and Hindi for friendship. The message, translated from Russian, highlighted Modi's role in fostering bilateral ties and described their recent talks as 'substantive, frank, and productive.'
Putin's birthday message followed his visit to India from September 12-13 for the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi. During the summit, he met with Modi at Bharat Mandapam, where they discussed bilateral cooperation in key sectors and regional conflicts in the Middle East and the Black Sea. The two leaders also traveled in the same car to the INNOPROM Exhibition, organized by the ministries of industry and trade of both countries.
The camaraderie between the two leaders is not new. During the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Bishkek on August 31, they traveled in the same car to the opening ceremony of the World Nomad Games after their bilateral talks. Similarly, last year, Modi and Putin traveled together to a venue for a bilateral meeting in Tianjin, China, on the sidelines of the SCO Leaders' Summit.
The Druzhba-Dosti initiative, under which the two nations aim to strengthen ties over the next decade, reflects the broader strategic alignment between India and Russia. The message underscores the importance of their partnership in the context of evolving global dynamics, particularly in the Indo-Pacific and Eurasian regions.
What remains unknown is the extent to which this birthday message will influence future bilateral engagements or policy decisions. Additionally, the absence of a formal response from the Indian side raises questions about the nature of their communication and the level of public engagement with such diplomatic gestures.
