Police Inspector Ramesh Tadvi of Mahad in Raigad district has written a letter to the State Police Commissioner, Maharashtra, Mumbai, alleging that he faced caste-based discrimination due to his Bhil tribal background and that he might commit suicide if justice is not served. Tadvi met with Deputy Superintendent of Police Savita Garje and mentioned that the Raigad Police Superintendent Anchal Dalal had transferred him urgently after mentioning two incidents from the previous month. He claimed that his transfer was done deliberately due to his tribal background and held all the involved officials including the former and current Police Superintendents, Deputy Inspectors, and others accountable. He also demanded filing a case under the Caste Discrimination and Atrocities Act. He further alleged that officials exerted pressure on him in a case related to a crime in Mahad in December. Tadvi also mentioned that the police administration had handled the law and order situation and local elections peacefully in the previous month. This is the second transfer against Tadvi in the past two years, and his letter clearly states that the transfer was done citing caste-based discrimination. This incident has caused a stir in the Raigad and Maharashtra police forces. Currently, the public is watching closely to see what action the district police superintendent Anchal Dalal will take in this matter.
