A 40-year-old man from Bihar strangled his wife and burned her face with hot oil in Bengaluru, according to police. The incident occurred on September 16 at their rented house in Bilekahalli, where the couple had been living for 18 months. The deceased, Gunja Maddheshiya, 38, was identified as a homemaker, while her husband, Ranjit Kumar Gupta, has been arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
Police stated that the couple had frequent quarrels over trivial issues for the past three months. On the day of the incident, Gupta returned home after work and picked another fight with Gunja, who had already sent their children to school. He allegedly assaulted and killed her by strangling her with a dupatta. After the act, he poured hot oil on her face in an attempt to disfigure her and make the death appear as a suicide. However, her face was not completely burnt, and he left the house shortly after.
The house owner learned about the death around 8pm and informed police, who noted discrepancies in Gupta’s account and behavior. During questioning, Gupta allegedly confessed to the crime, stating that their disputes had intensified in recent months and that Gunja had failed to answer his calls a couple of times. The couple’s children have been sent to stay with relatives.
The police are investigating the circumstances leading to the quarrel and the motive behind Gupta’s actions. They are also examining the reason for the hot oil incident, as well as any alleged suicide attempt by Gupta, which remains unconfirmed. The incident has shocked residents of Bilekahalli, and police have registered a case for further inquiry.
The police have not disclosed details about the alleged suicide attempt, and the motive behind Gupta’s actions remains unclear. The case is ongoing, with further details awaited as the investigation continues.
