apple launches iphone 18 pro with dynamic-aperture camera
Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max with a dynamic-aperture main camera, improved battery life, and new AI features. Details on pricing and availability confirmed.

Apple announced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at its September 12 event, featuring a dynamic-aperture main camera and a new A20 Pro chip. The devices come in deep black, silver, glacier, and burgundy, with color-matched back glass. Preorders begin on September 12, with availability on September 18. The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,19,9 for 256GB, a $100 increase over the iPhone 17 Pro, while the 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299 for 256GB. Both models are available in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB configurations.
The iPhone 18 Pro features a 48-megapixel variable-aperture main camera with six blades thinner than a human hair, designed to improve low-light photography and night mode performance. The camera also supports 4K Dolby Vision HDR time-lapse videos. Apple claims the dynamic-aperture system allows the lens to open wider in darker environments, enhancing light capture and image quality. The new camera includes pro controls for manual adjustments like shutter speed and histogram, offering greater creative flexibility. The devices also support Google’s SynthID protocol and Apple’s new Reference Image standard for image authenticity.
The A20 Pro chip, built on 2nm technology, includes a 6-core CPU with two desktop-class super cores and four efficiency cores, along with a 7-core GPU for a 40 percent performance increase. The chip also features a second neural engine, totaling 32 NPU cores. The iPhone 18 Pro has a next-generation vapor chamber with three times the surface area of the 17 Pro model for improved cooling. Battery life is comparable to the 17 Pro Max, with 36 hours of video playback for the 18 Pro and 45 hours for the 18 Pro Max. Apple claims 15 minutes of wired charging provides 50 percent charge for the 18 Pro, while five minutes of charging gives seven hours of video playback for the 18 Pro Max.
The iPhone 18 Pro line also includes a smaller Dynamic Island capable of displaying three Live Activities, an improvement over the previous model’s two. The devices feature a new C2 cellular modem supporting mmWave 5G and offering faster uploads with 15 percent less energy consumption. The design follows the 2025 iPhone 17 Pro’s redesign, which replaced titanium with aluminum and introduced a vapor chamber and a camera bar on the back. The 18 Pro line is available in a new burgundy color, replacing the previous orange option.
The devices’ pricing and availability details are confirmed, but further information on user adoption, performance benchmarks, and long-term durability remains unknown.
